The Floor Deck Is Built!

This is the floor deck of the kitchen/office area on the new extension.

Filling in the Excavation Around the Basement Walls

Finally, the water proofing is done; earth is filled in by Bob the Builder (with his machine) as well as Tom and Richard (with shovels!).

Basement Structural Beams

Several beams are needed to support the first floor. Bob the Builder guided these HUGE beams through holes in the basement walls with his heavy equipment. The masons took a break from building the new extension basement walls to move the beam in place. Tom, of course, was in the middle of the hubbub.

Waterproofing and Drainage

We've spent a great deal of work to assure a dry basement. Tom's wood working shop will be there as well as the water heaters, washing machines, etc. We might even use the space for guest overflow! Gotta keep the basement dry; we don't have enough pool air mattresses for overflow guests to float around the basement!
Notice the permeable black fabric which encircles the french drain after it is covered in gravel.

Earth Wall Cave-In!!!!!!

One night, one of the earth walls next to the new extension caved in before we had applied the water proofing materials. After lots of shoveling and assistance from Bob the Builder, we could proceed with applying the water proofing membranes. WATCH OUT BOB!!!! DON'T SCOOP UP TOM IN THE HOLE!!!!

Walls for the New Extension

The masons worked hard building the walls for the new extension.

The foundation for the new extension

Here are the footers/foundation for the cellar walls that will support the new extension we're adding to the back of the home. This extension will include a kitchen and office.

Jennifer Wendell visits Lewes!

Richard's cousin, Jennifer Wendell visited Tom and Richard as part of her "whirl wind tour" of the east coast. We were able to fit in a day at the beach, tour of Lewes, dinner and "show" in Rehoboth....as well as a visit to the work site.

The house gets lowered onto the new foundation

Here is Bob the Builder lowering the house onto the new foundation. It's incredible what he can do all by himself!
